  • Effluent – for major construction projects consider using effluent, treated waste water, instead of using potable water from fire hydrants, in order to conserve fresh potable water.
  • Reuse water whenever you can. For example, collect water from your roof to water your garden, or wash veggies and fruits in a pan, and then use the remaining water to water houseplants.
  • Monitor your water bill for unusually high usage and reduce water usage when possible.
  • Use a refillable water bottle, or designate a glass to use throughout the day, in order to reduce the numbers of glasses you wash throughout the day.
  • Avoid recreational toys that require a constant flow of water.
  • Look for products bearing the EPA WaterSense label.

Vegetarian Diet to Save Two Billion People

Water is the source of life. Everything that we eat and produce takes some percentage of water usage. Some products that we consume require more water usage then others. Animal products are one of the biggest water consumers. To be able to produce one pound of beef we use 1,799 gallons of water. Currently, humans are getting 20 percent of their protein from animal products.
The human population is growing everyday. By 2050 there will be 9.1 billion people living around the world. Currently the world is facing water shortages. With the current world’s food production there will not be enough food to feed 2 billion more people due to water shortages. The world has to change its food consuming culture immediately. Some scientists believe that by reducing by five percent animal consumption we will be able to save 2 billion people from hunger.
