in Africa to collect water! Women and children are the most affected victims of water shortages worldwide. In many third world countries it is the duty of women and children to obtain fresh water for their families.
Women and children in Africa spend 40 billion hours every year collecting water. Can you imagine how difficult that must be? Many of those women and children travel great distances to collect water from resources located in unprotected areas. This puts these women and children under threat of sexual assault everyday. In some African countries, women have been injured to the point of death when they have been sexually assaulted by men. This risk is much higher even than accessibility to water.
