City Water Vs. Bottled Water
Americans consume over 50 billion bottles of water a year. More than 80 percent of those bottles are not being recycled. But, why do we drink bottled water, when we have city water? City water is better than bottled water in many ways. It is better for the environment. It is better for your health. And it is better for your budget!
There are a number of very dangerous chemicals being used during the bottling process and in producing the bottle itself. Just two examples of these dangerous chemicals are DEHA and BBP. DEHA is a human carcinogen and BBP is a hormone disruptor. On the other hand, city water, if properly filtered, poses no threat to human health. Some cities such as Bundanoon, Australia have even banned bottled water from their shelves. This is because of the dangers and consequences of using bottled water and because they consider water to be a traditional public good. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/03/100310/why-tap-water-is-better/ http://waterforlifeusa.com/blog/the-real-cost-of-bottled-water |
