The Global Water Crisis
One of the most human basic needs for survival is water. Clean drinking water is one of the most pressing issues the world faces today. Water comprises nearly 60% of the human total body weight. Without this precious resource there would be no human life. Have you ever experienced not having access to clean water? Lack of safe drinking water is a reality for millions of people all over the world. According to National Geographic, the world's population is currently at 7.1 billion. As our population increases so does the demand for water. Therefore, our freshwater ecosystems are being depleted at an alarming rate. |
People worldwide, especially from third world countries such as, Africa, India, Haiti and the Moroccan Desert, struggle daily to find clean water. Many are forced to drink whatever water is available regardless of its safety wherever and however they find it. Such water is often polluted by agricultural runoff, contaminated with Guinea worm, or untreated sewage which in turn adversely affects men, women, and especially children.

Fresh water is not only necessary to prevent illness and promote physical physical health but also one to grow food, build industry, construct homes and maintain a sanitary environment.

Unfortunately, the issues relating to the water crisis have been, largely, neglected. Many of us have proven to be “inefficient water users.”
For example, in order to produce a quarter pound burger, it takes about 630 gallons of water.

We all have an opportunity to make the world a better place to share with the rest of humanity. We need to seek solutions to ensure we have clean drinking water.
